In 2024 Job stability is a myth
First, thank you to the 2,600+ amazing people who signed up for this newsletter. Hi, it’s Joel Lalgee, AKA The Realest Recruiter, AKA The most infamous recruiter in the world AKA a normal dude and Dad.
I publish this newsletter every 2 weeks and highlight all my top content from TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X. Along with bad takes, news, and a ton of other stuff I think is not boring.
I hope you enjoy it!!!

WHAT’S IN THE NEWS:
@the_realest_recruiter Recruiters will be fine though 🤣#ai #linkedin #corporate #layoffs #techtok #greenscreen
AI is a massive focus for companies right now. When Google laid people off 18 months ago their CEO vowed to make all employees 1.4 more times productive. Since then, many companies including UPS, Citigroup, and a host of others have announced layoff plans in the name of Automation.
My advice to you right now is to research how AI will be impacting your field. As a recruiter, I am using AI to help me source and find new candidates, message new candidates, transcribe and summarize calls, create content, and do tons of other things. (info on those tools is at the end of the newsletter)

@the_realest_recruiter You've been warned #layoffs #laidoff #greenscreen
This is nothing new, but it may be making a big comeback. If you find yourself being coached out of your organization. get your resume prepared. I’m also a huge fan of joining industry communities to source for new job opportunities and network. (if you’re in recruitment join https://eq.app?0aff=vszrag7euga5 EQ connect a membership for future-minded recruiters)
I’m just reminded how so many jobs right now are unstable and right now., you need to make sure you’re prepared.
If you find yourself on the job search, there are a lot of tools available to you that have AI and other cool features - One company I work with is Use Massive an autoapply tool powered by AI. Check it out here: https://usemassive.com/?via=joel-lalgee
This tool will save you hundreds of hours of manually applying for jobs!
Instagram - The-realestrecruiter page just hit 75k as of yesterday in 3 weeks 🤯
With almost a million views, a lot of people resonate with this remote work hack 😉 https://www.instagram.com/reel/C28j2fEAZNL/?igsh=bmdvd2F1cTFteHVz

@the_realest_recruiter Have you been passed over for a promotio n ? This is why... #careeradvice #careertips #careeradvice
I’ve been creating a lot of content around corporate politics. I think of my experience and who I’ve seen been promoted. Yes some great people sometimes, but also a lot of likeable people and people that played the corporate game.
Whether we like it or not… sucking up works!
What do you think?

This is one of the questions I least appreciate, especially in this market. I mean we have had layoffs, a pandemic, uncertainty… The truth is, that employers still want to know this, so be prepared.
However, if people ask my strategy is to make the response quick and then turn it around to make it about the company.
Why do you want to work there? What’s the latest news on the company? What’s the culture like?

I had to for the Superbowl lol! So often candidates blame recruiters but in reality, hiring managers are the ones who get picky.
I’ve never met a recruiter who doesn’t want to fill jobs…
Right now we are in an “employer market” meaning companies are moving slower, making lowball offers and forcing people back to the office.
If you are on a job search you have to apply to a lot of jobs you are QUALIFIED for. Qualification is determined by the hiring manager and then screened by the recruiter.
Right now there is roughly a 1-3% response rate (every 100 apps should equal 1-3 responses.
If you AREN’T getting a response, it’s one of 2 things:
Your resume is bad.
You’re applying to the wrong jobs
Tweak your resume and test out different content.
Remember a resume isn’t a work history document, it’s a marketing document designed to get a recruiter to call you for the jobs you're applying to.
THE TECH IM USING:
Since I started in recruitment a decade ago, nothing has been "easy"... but there are so many great tools available that can help you focus on being a better recruiter.
Since I got back in recruitment at the end of last year, here are the tools I am using, and the great news, you can try most of them out yourself for free:
1. Recruiterflow - When I started in recruitment I used a spreadsheet, since then I've worked with a lot of frustrating ATSs. When I started my own shop I decided I needed a new tool, so I was referred to Recruiterflow. Their interface is clean and customizable, they can provide me with client portals so I look more professional, and best of all their data migration is painless. You can try them here if you're sick of the ATS Bull**** 😉
2. Betterleap: Contact information is expensive and usually not accurate, and most sourcing tools have confusing prices. That's why I love Betterleap, you can source using natural language and they have access to the best contact information (DM me if you want to put it to the test against your tool). You can try Betterleap for free!
3. Metaview - of course I love this one. No more note-taking for recruiters with instant conversation summaries so you can focus on being the most engaged recruiter you can be. This is a time saver and easily one of my favorite tools. You can try Metaview here and mention “Joel 2024” for the extended month-long trial.
So please guys, if you aren't upping your game, try these tools for FREE,
It will make your life easier, even if recruiting is still a challenge 😉
I am partnered with all the companies above and highly recommend their services!
