Episode Summary: Like it or not, the recruitment landscape is evolving rapidly. Success now requires embracing advanced technology alongside understanding human connections. By blending AI for efficient data handling with the essential human touch of relationship building and niche market expertise, recruiters can thrive in this changing industry.
Today on "Recruiting is No Joke," we are joined by Gary Elden OBE and Dan Malka, CEO and co-founders of Hire Genius, an essential all-in-one cloud-based recruitment toolkit. Our discussion delves into the dynamic recruitment landscape, highlighting the crucial roles of relationship-building, adapting post-COVID, and leveraging AI effectively.
Gary Elden OBE emphasizes that understanding client needs and building rapport are foundational for successful recruiters. Post-COVID, the recruitment market has shifted, requiring adaptability. While cold calling remains integral, Gary Elden OBE and Dan Malka stress converting these into warmer relationships.
They underscore the benefits of specialization, actionable data, and navigating challenges for solo recruiters. Balancing technology and personal interactions is key, alongside focusing on niche markets for industry success. Dan Malka advocates for integrating AI meaningfully rather than superficially, cautioning against over-reliance for productivity.

JOEL’s Take away from the episode:
My biggest takeaway from this episode is the emphasis on REAL relationships vs just online transactional relationships. Dan mentions the rise of the “e-recruiter” and how they are truly struggling to make an impact in 2024. Whether you’re in sales, recruitment, or even looking for a job building relationships with real people is the key to success.
Over the past few years, we’ve all become reliant on online interactions and many of us have become burned out from the spam we get online. If you want to make an impact try calling, or even better going to meet people IRL…
This is was a great episode with two true leaders.
