SEE IT IN THE MIND- One of the best things you can learn in sales is the importance of preparation. I see too many people just “smile and ... See more

Joel: How long have you been creating content? Why did you start creating content?

Brent: Started doing content around 2016 but more of pure posting info around hiring and coming from an angle of trying to give value to the market. In 2018 when LinkedIn introduced video for the 1st time is really when I ramped things up. I started to do videos as I wanted to get on there early before it got saturated.

I also at this point really started to show more of myself and where the brand really took off. I would show myself playing hoops, hiking, being with my two daughters, charity events with my wife, show visiting cities we traveled to in order to see clients etc. Gave a glimpse into the life and hustle and it has seemed to resonate with many.

Joel: What channels/platforms do you focus on?

Brent: LinkedIn, Instagram, and even Tik Tok. But LinkedIn is and always has been the main one.

Joel: As an agency recruiter, how has this impacted your business leads/sales?

Brent: It has become a business development tool. I still believe that people do business with people they like and trust and it is hard for people to feel they know you if you hide behind an old picture. You also can build a fan base to a degree of people who want to engage with you based on who you are as a person, backing it up with the work results is secondary. Attention is the new currency, if you are a ghost and people don’t know who you are it makes it even harder to get responses.

Joel: What do your employees and clients think of your content?

Brent: They really like it because they also know it is not some character that has been built. What you see online is what you see in person, the problem many have is they are not what they portray.

Joel: What tips would you give someone that hasn't seen an ROI yet with content after a few months of creating?

Brent: Keep showing up and keep it real. Again you have to be yourself, show your likes, your daily routines, and things that you are passionate about. It will resonate with some and probably the folks you want to speak with. I think we all know when people are trying too hard to be cool. You are who you are, own it and embrace it.

Joel: You're growing on Tiktok now, what inspired you to start?

Brent: I think we all just realize you have to be seen and on as many platforms as possible. The audience and reach are different on all platforms so I try to showcase different things on each one.

Joel: Has Tiktok been effective for business growth?

Brent: I would say more on the candidate side, I feel the people we engage are on there so I see them commenting and liking stuff more. But again be known or be forgotten.

Joel: You've been consistent for years now, how do you stay consistent with content?

Brent: I just always have fresh ideas, I am very big into personal development so I am always listening or watching something positive. There are really good messages out there so I want to share things that resonate with me with owners, just by putting my own angle or spin on it.

Joel: Why do enjoy creating content?

Brent: Because I know how much value I get out of the people I follow if I can be that for even one person I view it as a win. I try to inspire and educate folks so we can all get better. I feel a duty and obligation to raise the standard for all-around or all who watch me. Making people better is my motto.

Joel: What do you dislike about being a creator?

Brent: You get some weird comments from folks, but honestly I brush those off pretty quickly. I know who I am and how I am built, but at times they get under your skin. Part of the game.

Joel: How do you come up with new ideas for content?

Brent: I listen to so many podcasts, listen or watch some much motivational videos that things come to me that way. Also being in recruiting you just see scenarios constantly as we deal with people, so if we come across situations where we can help people I try to share that. And I am always on the go and hustling so I just show a day in the life almost also.

Joel: Who are some creators that inspired you when you start?

Brent: Andy Frisella, Ed Mylett, Bedros Kueilian, Patrick Bet David, Grant Cardon and Brad Lea are some.

Joel: What has been the biggest challenge for you with creating content?

Brent: I always want to give off the most professional look and feel possible, but I also believe in the “one take” approach to keep it authentic. So sometimes I have great ideas but if it does not come out in one take I move on. Can’t fake it or script it.

Joel: What is next for you in your content creation journey?

Brent: I am really cranking up video as my main method of posting. I think doing it the professional way I do in a studio is still a separator for recruiters, so time to go all in.

Joel: What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?

Brent: Don’t try to be someone you are not, don’t be some kind of character, and be yourself.

Joel: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in your journey as a content creator?

Brent: I have been stopped at the mall with my kids or been approached at the airport. They think it is fantastic, and I think it is funny when people you don’t know come up to introduce themselves. It goes to show they may not like or comment on things, but people are watching.

Joel: Where can people find you/connect with you?

Brent: LinkedIn where I post more on my personal page than the business, Pinnacle Growth advisors on Instagram as well as TIKTOK

Each week I am going to give you a few tips if you want to get started on creating content based on the conversation I’ve had:

Authenticity is a buzzword but being REAL is the key to success.

Personal branding has got a terrible rep these days -

Power selfies, Flex selfies, nonstop filters…

Everyone is constantly flexing on social media and this is unfortunately what most people assume a good personal brand is.

What I love most about Brent, is his unwavering loyalty to his worldview.

We don’t agree on everything and guess what THAT’S OKAY.

He talks about hustling and grinding, I talk about work-life balance.

He goes to the office every day, I love remote work.

My point is, we are still friends and have been for years.

Brent is bold with the things he says that he knows are counter-culture, but this actually attracts a lot of his clientele.

Brent has always been a firm believer in meeting his clients FACE-to-FACE. I believe that has helped his online brand explode with his target audience.

They see him at events, trade shows, and onsite at their locations. He builds Real World relationships and then nurtures them online with content.

This is why I’m personally going to more in-person events and clients onsite because this is the ultimate way to solidify your brand and relationships.

See you are Recfest in Nashville - Wink Wink.

I am the REALEST RECRUITER, but Brent is for sure one of the most Authentic Recruiters I know… Real recognizes Real.

Watch the video above - Brent tells it how it is.

Here are 3 things I’ve learned from Brent’s success.

  1. Be yourself. This is overused but when I think of this, I essentially think of it as scaling your “offline self”… online.

No fake persona or image, no fluff. Talk online the same way you would with your colleagues, your friends, and your clients.

When people meet you, they should say, “You are exactly what I expected you would be.”

If that doesn’t happen there is a disconnect and you’re doing something wrong.

  2. Be consistent with your message and activity - This is how you win over the long term. There’s no quick fixes or solutions.

  3. Content can become your major Business Development tool. If you follow the top 2 tips.

Don’t give up because you don’t see results in a week.

I’ve found when I’m working with teams - most lack the work ethic that Brett has to stay consistent.

If Brett has taught me one truth… It’s this.

Winners don’t give up in:

Recruitment, Sales, Social media content… and life.

Here are my thoughts about that:
