WELCOME to my weekly Newsletter
Quick Introduction for New Readers
👋Hi - Thanks to all 1287 of you that have subscribed!
I wanted to create a place to bring all my content together and dive deeper into the TA/HR space. The People space is always full of surprises and trends and over the past decade, I have fallen in love with this industry.
I'm most known for viral content on Social media but there's so much more to what drives this content. Different content, same me! I'll publish this newsletter Every Week.
My promise - This newsletter will be short, funny, and valuable.
(For brand partnerships contact me at [email protected] with social media that reaches 10 million eyeballs a month I help you get your word out in the market.)
POLL OF THE WEEK ON LINKEDIN:
I was accused of "fear-mongering" and "clickbait" with this one. Well come on, you don't get thousands of followers without a little clickbait, Agree?😉
On a serious note, I am genuinely curious to see what the future holds with AI as we all are. I was up until 3 am in the morning unable to sleep because of youtube videos claiming that AI is going to take over everything, surely not recruitment though?
To the 15% of respondents that said "the whole process" - What on earth are you thinking? I thought it would be a bunch of engineers that voted this way, nope a decent amount of recruiters... I guess they need to be looking for a different field 😉
My thoughts on this are simple. AI is a tool, like a calculator. Just like a calculator can't get the right answer without the right inputs, AI is the same way. Recruiters that use AI to make them more efficient with processes will be better off. I do think that the higher the volume of recruiting, (FOR EXAMPLE, hourly retail roles) the more AI could be used but for higher-level strategic roles human interaction is crucial.
Bottom Line: The biggest challenges in recruitment are people problems, not tech problems.

A few notable comments on the subject:

Biggest Loser

Yeah... It's hard to put words to this one. This was a pretty clear message that Racism and Bias are alive and well in the business world.
8 years ago when I started in recruitment, I was shocked how often as an agency recruiter I would hear hiring managers say things like "I know this isn't HR appropriate... but"... This would be followed by usually a subtle bias comment.
"We need someone polished...", "We need an Up and Comer", "We need someone from this elite school..."
I was also quickly introduced to the "they must need sponsorship..." anytime a candidate had a foreign-looking name.
I'm going NOT going to get too deep into this because I'm not a DEI expert, but it's super disappointing for all of us - Yes this company is the biggest loser, but the reality is, we all lose with this behavior.
This is why DEI matters and as recruiters and those that hire we need to care about what's going on and take a stand.
This is proof that there is clearly not a "level playing field"
Recruitment Social Selling Tip
"I don't know where to start..."
I hear this a lot, and it's very common. I had 5 networking calls this week (I'm on a challenge to do 500 networking calls in 365 days and document the results in my Linkedin newsletter), where several people mentioned this. It's easy to look at creators all around us that look like "pros" but trust me, most of them started from this same place...
In this place, there are 2 things you can do:
You can stay in this place and never move
You can step out and just start creating.
Number 2 doesn't mean you necessarily have to create your own content it can start with getting more active with comments or sharing articles and leaving your 2 cents. Yes, comments are still content.
It's hard to get better at creating content when you have no content, where you start is never where you end up going.
If you're looking to get started - I recommend this:
Set some time in your calendar each day to write some content
Set some time in your calendar each day to engage with others and consume industry content to get inspired.
Start with written posts and get comfortable writing - maybe a selfie 😉
Try to aim for 3 posts a week to establish a habit
Don't be hard on yourself or overthink.
Always be writing down content ideas, this helped me a ton.
