First, thank you to the 2,300+ amazing people who signed up for this newsletter. Hi, it’s Joel Lalgee, AKA The Realest Recruiter, AKA The most infamous recruiter AKA a normal dude and dad.
I publish every 2 weeks and highlight all my top content from TikTok, Linkedin, and X. Along with bad takes, news and a ton of other stuff i think is not boring.
Also every month I showcase a creator who’s smashing it with content to learn with the team. (Wanna be featured? Reach out to [email protected])
Hope you Enjoy it!!!
ADVICE FOR LAYOFFS:
@the_realest_recruiter Dont be caught unprepared #layoffs #techlayoffs #layoff
TOP TIPS TO PREPARE FOR UNEXPECTED LAYOFFS:
Make sure your LinkedIn is updated with your skills so it is easy for recruiters to find you.
Update your resume. Note down numbers, accomplishments, and all successes with your current company while you still have access to that information.
Start networking. Join online groups on Discord, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter (X) Spaces, and start having conversations and building connections within your space.
NO JOB IS SECURE- EVER.

Look, culture matters, trust me I know. I’ve worked with some great cultures and leaders and also worked with some terrible cultures and leaders and I promise that the latter makes life unbearable…
However, culture should never be an excuse to lowball people. Having a good culture means you pay people the most you can (It’s hard to keep up with Big Tech).
This poll shows that money is still number 1 despite what the “Culture Gurus” say.
What do you think, Culture or money?
I go with money, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t care about the culture, nothing worse than working with an A-hole boss, trust me, I know.

I’ve worked with unlimited PTO twice and each time it was amazing. I’ve also heard the data that people don’t take as much time off. To me, if you’re experiencing pressure not to take off, you probably have a toxic work culture.
Leaders need to encourage time off to avoid burn out. The best way is to lead by example.
Are you a fan of unlimited PTO?

My prediction
The great Resignation 2.0
Coming in 2024:
Remote work coming back,
Higher salaries coming back,
Recruiter demand coming back.— Joel Lalgee (@Humanheadhunter)

This is a prediction that I would love to be right on. From what I’m seeing the first few weeks of the year… not sure anymore. I think with the election year it may be difficult as there is going to be a lot more uncertainty. It reminds me a lot of 2020 right now.
I’d prefer to be positive right now though…

Them: "Recruiting is Easy, all you do is post jobs and wait for candidates to apply..."
Recruiters: 😂🙄

Since I started in recruitment a decade ago, nothing has been "easy"... but there are so many great tools available that can help you focus on being a better recruiter.
Since I got back in recruitment at the end of last year, here are the tools I am using, and the great news, you can try most of them out yourself for free:
1. Recruiterflow - When I started in recruitment I used a spreadsheet, since then I've worked with a lot of frustrating ATSs. When I started my own shop I decided I needed a new tool, so I was referred to Recruiterflow. Their interface is clean and customizable, they can provide me with client portals so I look more professional, and best of all their data migration is painless. You can try them here if you're sick of the ATS Bull**** 😉 Recruiterflow
2. Betterleap: Contact information is expensive and usually not accurate, and most sourcing tools have confusing prices. That's why I love Betterleap, you can source using natural language and they have access to the best contact information (DM me if you want to put it to the test against your tool). You can try Betterleap for free here to try it yourself: www.betterleap.com/joel
3. Metaview - of course I love this one. No more note-taking for recruiters with instant conversation summaries so you can focus on being the most engaged recruiter you can be. This is a time saver and easily one of my favorite tools. You can try Metaview here and mention “Joel 2024” for the extended month-long trial: Metaview
So please guys, if you aren't upping your game, try these tools for FREE,
It will make your life easier, even if recruiting is still a challenge 😉
I am partnered with all the companies above and highly recommend their services!
