He has built a strong reputation by always prioritizing relationships while balancing his Client's business needs and Candidates' career goals. Adam is truly a power connector. He identifies opportunities, synergies and connects the dots.

Joel: How long have you been creating content?

Adam: Well, I've been active on LinkedIn since around 2010, but I mostly utilize it for networking and job search. I really didn't get too serious with daily content till I launched my podcast, #thePOZcast, in early 2019, and I haven't looked back.

Joel: Why did you start creating content?

Adam: For me, sharing content was a great way to promote the podcast and the guests featured to start meaningful conversations. I then started to create more content around the job search process, interviewing, hiring and team building to resonate with my audience and network.

Joel: What channels/platforms do you focus on?

Adam: Aside from the audio podcast, LinkedIn is my primary channel. However, lately, I've been spending a lot of time on Twitter to engage a new audience and continue to build my professional network. I also find Darren McKee intriguing. He continues to share his journey authentically and always does his best to add value and share the bad along with the good.

Joel: Who are some creators that inspire you?

Adam: Alex Sheridan has always been a gold standard for me in a number of ways- he educates (how to create powerful content) and is entertaining and insanely original. He always keeps it real and does not pander to the likes.

Joel: What has been the biggest challenge for you with creating content?

Adam: When you put a ton of effort into a piece of content that you think will resonate and perform well and it falls flat due to the algo, or maybe it just wasn't as good as you thought. Then you post a stupid meme or a post that takes 2 seconds to write and the metrics are off the charts!

Joel: How has content helped your business/career/personal life?

Adam: Building a brand around #thePOZcast has enabled me to connect with decision-makers in companies that I want to do business with and drive new business for my recruitment company, NHP Talent Group. The show and associated content have positioned me as a credible thought leader and public speaker and have opened up doors for global event moderation and keynotes. Both candidates and current/potential clients see this as credibility based on actual proof.

Joel: What is next for you in your content creation journey?

Adam: I am working on a new podcast with a brand partner that is exciting. It will open up new doors and conversations! We will have a ton of content around it. My goal is to take the content from the new podcast to the next level as far as production and distribution.

Joel: What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?

Adam: Keep going, be consistent, and do not cave into the trends. You can certainly A/B test things but do not become a trend junkie. This will not help to establish any credibility or long-term growth.

Joel: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in your journey as a content creator?

Adam: Too many to count over the years. I have had so many incredible conversations via The POZcast that have resulted in so many funny chats and great content. Really hard to pinpoint just one!

Joel: Where can people find you/connect with you?

There is so much GOLD here. Thanks Adam for dropping this wisdom. Adam and I share the same passion for authenticity and consistency. Put the work in, and you will get the results. I highly encourage you to connect and follow Adam for the podcast blueprint. He also has a course available here.

Each week I am going to give you a few tips if you want to get started on creating content based on the conversation I’ve had:

Podcasting is a lot of work:

I should know, I’ve run and managed to live streams that I convert into podcasts. The Headhunter Hideout, and Recruiting is no Joke.

Things you need to think about when setting up a podcast:

  1. Name

  2. Topics

  3. Equipment

  4. Recording Software

  5. Post-production

  6. Promotion on Social

  7. Guest outreach

  8. The Interview

  9. Website to host

  10. Social pages

It’s another full time job.

Want to get started on Podcast?

Here are my top 5 tips for getting started:

  1. Before you start figure out exactly what you want to talk about. Examples: Recruitment, HR tech, Start-ups, future of work…

  2. Try to leverage guest networks. Try to find guests that already have influence and are subject matter experts. You may have to start with people you already know.

  3. Find other podcasts in the space and fill the void: Try to be different with your content.

  4. Be consistent: Try to have a regular cadence: Once a month, 2 times a week, whatever you decide stick with it.

  5. Don’t give up TOO EARLY: Most podcasts don’t make it past episode 6… Keeeep pushing. Check the Tweet above 😉 Be consistent and be prepared to create for a while without seeing results!

Thank you for reading this episode: If you are looking for additional help with your content I’m providing 1 on 1 coaching and ghostwriting services. Want to work with me?

Until next time!
