Nearly Everyone's Favorite Recruiter - Edition 3

WELCOME, WHAT IS THIS NEWSLETTER ABOUT?

πŸ‘‹Hi - Thanks to all 1078 of you that have subscribed!

So one big change I am going to be releasing this newsletter WEEKLY.

I wanted to create a place to bring all my content together and dive deeper into the topics that I create content around. The People space is always full of surprises and trends and over the past decade, I have fallen in love with this industry.

I'm most known for viral content on Social media but there's so much more to what drives this content. Different content, same me! I'll be publishing this newsletter Every 2 weeks.

(If you'd like your company to be featured on my tech spot please contact me at [email protected] I offer paid partnerships with social that reaches 17 million eyeballs a month as well as appearances and speaking events)

BI-WEEKLY "WHO'S HIRING" POLL

I do this poll every two weeks. I've done this since December and remarkably it comes back with the same results every single time. I've had over 15,000 respondents over the course of the poll and it's always 70% saying yes and 30% saying no.

Personal opinion we live in a tech-focused news bubble that really doesn't show the full picture. All I've seen is Layoff after layoff, followed by bank failures and more layoffs...

If you are job seeking go to this poll to connect with 100's of recruiters and job posters, it might be a great resource. I've decided to post about this every other week to track so follow along. Link to the poll:

I talk to recruiters in other spaces and they are BUSY... Hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, supply chain, construction...

You could argue that no one wants these jobs, but if you're a recruiter, sometimes you need to go to where the work is. Traveling nurses anyone??? 😜

What's more concerning right now is how many 0-2 year recruiters are dropping out and experienced recruiters that are done with the constant layoffs and pendulum swings. The demand for recruiters is going to be extreme in 6-9 months. Feel free to tag me then I'f I'm wrong. Maybe Chat GPT will have replaced us all by then...

TIKTOK GETTING BANNED

So If you've followed me a while, you'll know that in October last year I decided to take on Tiktok again. I was inspired by my sister who had gone viral a few times. I thought, if she can still go viral then I'm not too late to reactivate my following.

In the 6 months since I've seen some explosive growth - Check out these metrics from the past 60 days.

Yes, that is 30,000,000 views in 60 days... 215,000 profile views in 60 days... People have been asking me if I'm worried about the ban, I mean yeah... but more disappointed. This is literally the closest I've ever been to famous and it's going to go down the pan.

I feel way worse for the other creators that have grown a following over years and years of content but never diversified, they are going to learn the "vine" lesson the hard way. For me, I'll just have to continue building on Linkedin/Twitter and yes Instagram lol! (Past month I've doubled my following there... 700-1400 🀣)

Here's what I'll say if you've grown a following on there and you are going to lose your whole audience, don't worry, video isn't going anywhere and Tiktok has been a masterclass of how to use video to grow a community. You'll be able to do it again.

As far as the ban goes, I have a sneaky suspicion Google and Meta have more to do with it than a security threat. Watching congress grill the CEO was painful.

RECRUITMENT SOCIAL SELLING TIP

Repurposing 101

People always ask me how I'm able to consistently post every day, across platforms, sometimes multiple times a day...  (Tiktok, Twitter, Linkedin, Instagram)

I create a lot, but I repurpose MORE

Here's my repurpose strategy, it's predicated on someone actually creating content but I think you could use a similar framework.

Find the platforms that work well together:

Linkedin and Twitter: Both text/image platforms

Instagram and Tiktok/Twitter: Instagram is Video and image.

Tiktok and Linkedin - both support video

I personally use Twitter, where I have around 9k followers, as a testing ground for content. I If a post performs well on Twitter, there is a 99% chance it will do well on Linkedin where I have a significantly larger audience. I use two methods, either copying and pasting the text word for word or screenshotting the tweet. (Yes, I'm one of those guys, although I am one of the first that did this on LinkedIn)

If you do the screenshot thing, do us a favor and don't just say "Agree", that's annoying. Use the text above the tweet to expand the story and drive the point home. Or just say "agree", what do I care, you do you 😜

For videos I use a similar strategy, if a video does well on Tiktok I will use a tool called Repurpose.IO. It removes the TikTok watermark for Instagram.

I've also found Tiktok-style videos perform well on Linkedin. The video below was part of a paid partnership with Brighthire, my podcast sponsor, and it had over 4000 minutes of view time as well as being shared around 15 times in under 24 hours. Not bad for a Linkedin video.

The last form of repurposing is simply reposting the same post after a few months.

  1. Your whole audience doesn't see every post

  2. People forget about the post

  3. Evergreen content always does well.

Here's an example from Twitter: I've posted this 7 times across platforms and including TikTok and it has received over 250,000 views/impressions. Don't reinvent the wheel.
