Each week, I’ll be interviewing a talent leader that is doing a great job with their content.

I’ll then break down how you can use their same strategies to build your brand, so each week you’ll learn and be inspired to create content.

Nikki Jaskiwicz - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikki-jaskiewicz-7b29b313/ Nikki is currently Sr. Manager of TA programs at United Airlines. She has worked at companies like Linkedin and CVS and has almost 15 years of experience in TA.

Nikki was one of the first recruiters I ran across on Tiktok when I decided to get active on the platform again.
She combines humor and the #recruiterlife and has built a community of over 30,000 fans- with over 1.3 million likes on her content.
She’s also managed to get her husband and family involved in the action!
@nikkijazzzz Pretty sure my husband is becoming the main character here. Work from home life 🤪 #remotework #wfh #remoteworkers #corporatetok #corporate... See more
Joel: How long have you been creating content?
Nikki: I posted my first TikTok video in September 2021. I've always used social media for personal things but this was the first time I ever created more public content.
Joel: Why did you start creating content?
Nikki: I originally made a TikTok video to share about a weird surgery I had to correct an issue I had called "pulsatile tinnitus" because there are others who struggle with it. However, once I realized how fun content was to make - I decided to make a few videos about recruiting because you cannot make up the stuff that happens! I had a TikTok video go viral in November 2021 and from it I got 2M views and over 10K followers. (You can find it pinned on my profile). And well, now I live here on TikTok.
Joel: What channels/platforms do you focus on?
Nikki: I focus primarily on TikTok. I started an Instagram account to re-share some TikToks but then I'm always on my personal account and forget about it, oops. TikTok is more fun anyways!
Joel: Who are some creators that inspire you?
Nikki: My content is a blend of the corporate humor and recruiting/HR space so I am inspired by a range of creators. Some of these include Cruz (@champagnecruz); Ellie Manual (@1corporatemillenial); Henry (@thatcorporatelawyer); Chase (@thecorporatechase); Jamie from Humorous Resources (@humorousresource); Dan from HR (@danfromHR) and HR Molly (@HRMolly)... just to name a few!
Joel: What has been the biggest challenge for you with creating content?
Nikki: I primarily create content for fun so sometimes my biggest challenge is making sure I'm still having fun while doing it. My primary niche is corporate humor - with a focus on recruiting and HR. I make fun of the process and everyone involved because, let's be honest, the job search process is wild. However, sometimes I get bored of this and I'll branch out into other content spaces which are relevant to me - like working moms and elder millennials. However, those never do quite as well and I "circle back" right into what I do best. I think beating the "boredom" can be the biggest challenge for me!
Joel: How has content helped your business/career/personal life?
Nikki: As I said, I create content mainly for fun - and I also never expected to be out here creating content! However, once I gained followers I quickly learned how to monetize my account. I now do collaborations and promos to make a little extra cash on the side. I have a regular, busy "corporate" job so any income from TikTok is a bonus! I also now work for the airlines and have flight benefits - so having TikTok income helps fund things like hotels and other travel expenses for my family.
Joel: What is next for you in your content creation journey?
Nikki: I think it's just to keep doing what I'm doing, learning what does well, and having fun along the way.
Joel: What’s the biggest piece of advice you’d give to someone starting out?
Nikki: Don't take yourself too seriously - like, at all. I've found the more unhinged or ridiculous the content seems to be - the better it may do. People want to be entertained while being educated... or they just want to be entertained! Find what best connects with the people who consume your content which might mean a lot of trial and error!
Joel: What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in your journey as a content creator?
Nikki: It's always funny when someone at work comes across my content and brings it up in a meeting. But one of the funnier moments was when I started a new job last summer and another recruiter in the office came up to me and said "I don't want to be weird but I love your TikTok!". You never know where you'll come across someone!
Joel: Where can people find you/connect with you?
Nikki: You can find me on TikTok at @nikkijazzzz. We can also connect on Linked In where you can find me at my real name - Nikki Jaskiewicz. (And as always, my thoughts are my own and not my employer's :))
Thank you to Nikki for sharing your story! I highly recommend going to follow Nikki on Tiktok, her content is relatable and hilarious!!!

Each week I am going to give you a few tips if you want to get started on creating content based on the conversation I’ve had:
Short-form video is the future: Tiktok in particular has completely changed how we consume content. Not only has Tiktok quickly become one of the most popular apps for people of all ages (It’s not just kids)
This is a breakdown of my 169,000 followers by age on Tiktok. 90% of my following is older than 25…

Want to get started on Tiktok?
Here are my top 5 tips for finding success on the platform:
Before you start posting, figure out exactly what you want to talk about. Examples: Sales, Technology, Interviewing, Salary Negotiation etc…
Stick to your niche above. The TikTok algorithm will help you find your audience if you stay true to your topics of choice. (Find the hashtags that relate to your niche and use them)
Find the voices in your space and use them for ideas and inspiration.
Use native features like “duets and stitches” to quickly find your audience and boost reach.
Use Trends sparingly. Using trends and making them about your niche can help you go viral, but in the long run, finding your own voice is key for an engaged audience.
My last tip and this applies to everything on social media: Be consistent and be prepared to create for a while without seeing results!
